Probably the most throw backs I’ve ever posted. But I had to post this one. My father-in-law was the most positive, inspiration male influence in my life. He died two years ago about this time of year. He died from long term effects that began after an extensive surgery to remove an aggressive squamous cell carcinoma. They removed an eighth of his frontal lobe and right eye in order to get a 50% two year extension on life. He beat those two years by living twelve more. He had developed Alzheimer’s like symptoms by 2008. In fact the last two years of his life, he was mostly bedridden. All my memories of him are pre-cancerous. He had the biggest heart for his family and friends and a sense of humor to match. My inlaw’s have a cabin up in the mountains. On today’s visit, I noticed his hat hanging next to the front door. Most likely untouched since he last placed it there in those days when he was symptom free. Made me happy and sad all at once. RIP Doug, wherever you are. #tbt #idyllwild, #memories #cancersucks

Trying to eat healthier. In the past, I would always pass up fruits and vegetable for Pigs-in-a-Blanket or bacon wrapped shrimp. Learning to retrain my taste buds and make my body happy for once. Dropped 40 lbs, dropped blood pressure, dropped process foods, limit sugar whenever possible, and completely stopped drinking alcohol and coffee. When the quality of life for my future may depend on what I do today, the transition has been an easy one.
